The libel on Mr. Jefferson and Meeting to vindicate the character of Jefferson [manuscript], 1840 July 4 and August 8.

An editorial in the 1840 July 4 edition of the Charlottesville Advocate responds to accusations in the "Episcopal Recorder" of Philadelphia that Thomas Jefferson aimed to subvert the Christian religion and diffused bad political doctrines. An article in the 1840 August 8 edition of the Charlottesville Advocate reported on a meeting of the citizenry at which a preamble and resolution were adopted in defense of Thomas Jefferson and in response to the accusations of the Rev. S. H. Tyng in the "Episcopal Recorder."
